MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Those hoping to reel in a walleye on the Maumee River are finding it difficult this week thanks to unusually high water levels on the river.

"Right now it should be prime time. The walleye are here, just right now the water is pretty high," said Dennis Davis, owner of D and D Lures in Swanton. "It's hard to get down to the bank to catch fish right now."

Some caught walleye on Friday, others reeled in only debris. Still, everyone seems hopeful the walleye run is coming.

"The weather break; I'm waiting on the weather to change," said Melvin Ivy.

"The water's moving too fast for them right now. Soon as the water starts to go down, fish are going to start biting really good," said Davis.
