Montgomery woman convicted of theft in Coffee Co.

Montgomery Attorney General Luther Strange has announced theconviction of a Montgomery woman who stole money from an Elba insurancecompany. The conviction states that the woman received $13,278 in payments forfalse claims submitted for cancer and neurological treatments.

Lashondra Moore, 31, pleaded guilty on April 1 in a CoffeeCounty Circuit Court to first degree theft, which is a class B felony. Moorereceived a sentence of 32 months in prison, which was suspended for a fiveyears probation term. Moore was also ordered to pay full restitution to the NationalSecurity Insurance Group. A plea agreement called for Moore to pay $10,000 ofthe restitution within a month, after which she may apply for the probation tobe changed to three years while continuing payment.  

"I am pleased that this defendant has been held to accountfor her crime, and ordered to repay the money that she stole by claiming largepayments for medical treatment that she neither needed nor received," saidAttorney General Strange.
