New nature center coming to Sandusky County

FREMONT, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A brand new, 4,000 square foot nature center is coming to Sandusky County.

The Sandusky County Park District will spend $1.52 million to build the center at Creek Bend Farms. It will feature classroom facilities, educational displays, a window to wildlife and will act as the headquarters for the districts naturalists and volunteers.

The district has already raised 90 percent of the money for the project, thanks to donations from 94 different entities.

Leaders say they hope the center will act as a catalyst for learning.

"It's going to be built with all ages in mind, but especially children. And we say we're going to measure successful days out there by how the number of kids who come in wet, dirty, and with a greater understanding and appreciation of nature," said Sandusky County Park District Director Steve Gruner.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the center will be held April 16. District leaders say they hope construction will be completed by the fall.
