KENT, OH (WOIO) -

Kent State University officials -- including the President, Dean of Students and Police Chief of Kent State University all expressed satisfaction with the way the situation of a gun being discharged on campus was handled at a news conference Thursday morning.

Police say Quavaugntay Tyler, a freshman from Cleveland, fired his gun around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night.

Police immediately put the campus on lockdown.

Tyler was the only one injured. The 24-year old apparently shot himself in the hand while going for his gun.

Cops say Tyler and two other women had gotten into an argument near Bowman Hall.

One of the women he argued with called police after fleeing. They checked with area hospitals, and eventually found him at Robinson Memorial. He will be arraigned once he's released.

Tyler, who police describe as having been a suspect in some campus thefts, is on probation for a theft charge in Brimfield.

Another student could face legal troubles for hiding Tyler's gun in a dorm room in Johnson Hall.
