SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

One Sylvania neighborhood could soon see a safer pathway for runners and walkers.  The path would be built along Sylvania-Metamora Road.

The idea just got the stamp of approval by the Olander Park System and the Lucas County Engineers Office.  The Lucas County Engineers Office does not yet have plans of the path. Some groups area already on board to help make it a reality though, including the Olander Park System.

Park officials say the path will provide a safe place for people to walk and run. Those who live in the area agree, and support the project.

"My children and I love to bike, walk, and jog and it is a great opportunity to be safe, because we are away from the traffic, and we don't have to worry about any unsafe conditions," said Jeff Robinson.

The pathway would be built along the south side of Sylvania-Metamora from Killburn to Mitchaw, and on the north side from Mitchaw to Centennial.

So far Olander Park says they will contribute up to $65,900. A transportation grant through the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council Of Governments worth $278,000 will cover the majority of the $473,000 project. Other municipalities contributing include the city of Sylvania and Lucas County.

The pathway would also help connect walkers to the pathway near Flower Hospital. Olander Park officials say the goal is to connect other parks together, to create on big pathway for runners, joggers and kids.
