Springfield Township launches text messaging system

Springfield Township residents already have the option to receive text messages from Lucas County. Now the township is offering more detailed information by text message.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) - Springfield Township residents already have the option to receive text messages from Lucas County. Now the township is offering more detailed information by text message.

The new system offers emergency alerts in addition to texts for events, road closures, township services like leaf collection and public meetings.

Users can also notify the township of any special needs they have in case of an evacuation.

"Information moves so quickly. We realize that it is important to get information out to our residents whether it's an emergency or whether just what is going on in the township so they feel more connected and know what is going on in their community," said Springfield Township Administrator Leslie Kohli.

The township will spend $2,500 of general fund money to pay for the service. To sign up, visit http://entry.inspironlogistics.com/springfield_township/wens.cfm.
