Donate blood and help save a life

PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

March is Red Cross Month. What better way to celebrate than donating blood and being an everyday hero?

Stop by the Hilton Garden Inn at Levis Commons in Perrysburg Friday from 7-7 for our fourth annual blood drive. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can call 1-800-REDCROSS to schedule an appointment.

The process takes about an hour. To be eligible to donate, you must:

-Be healthy, meaning you feel well and can perform normal activities

-Be at least 17 years old in most states, or 16 years old with parental consent if allowed by state law

-Weigh at least 110 lbs. Additional weight requirements apply for donors 18 years old and younger

About 300 units a day are needed to meet demand in our area. Organizers say they have already met their goal for the morning hours, but hope the steady pace of donors continues into the afternoon and evening. One blood donation can help save up to three lives.
