NEW YORK CITY (WFSB) -

The UConn men's basketball team has defeated the Iowa State Cyclones, 81-76, 36-26, to advance to the Elite 8.

In the Sweet Sixteen matchup, forward DeAndre Daniels had a double-double. He had 27 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.

Point guard Shabazz Napier had 19 points, five rebounds and five assists. Guard Ryan Boatright had 16 points.

Forward Dustin Hogus was the leading scorer for the Cyclones with 34 points.

To advance to the Sweet Sixteen, UConn defeated St. Joes in overtime, 89-81, during the first round and Villanova, 77-65, in the round of 32.

The Huskies have won seven Big East Championships and the 1988 NIT Championship at Madison Square Garden. UConn won two games this season at MSG.

"It is a home court advantage for UConn," said David Bobbie, of Shelton.

UConn fan Tim Cooper said Friday's game was a hot ticket item.

"Last I checked, I saw tickets for $650 for nosebleed seats," said Windsor Locks resident Cooper. "We got them for $250."

Ticket brokers like Rod Cardewell of Ticketworld.com. said high demand and a relatively small building for the NCAA Tournament East Regional game means high prices for the Huskies' Sweet 16 matchup.

"The prices jumped up over the weekend to $300. And this morning, they rose to $350 a ticket," said Rod Cardewell of Ticketworld.com.

Some tickets would be available at the gate, but all four teams playing in the arena have to split those. That means splitting tickets with Iowa State, Virginia and Michigan State. That's why experts said it's a long shot.

Metro-North ran extra trains from New Haven to Grand Central Terminal for fans to get to the game easier.

But in the end, fans said they couldn't ask for a better place for UConn to play this game.

"I couldn't ask for a better place to have a Sweet Sixteen game with a chance to go to the Elite 8," said Dustin Cormier, of Windsor Locks. "It's just something absolutely special."

Seventh-seeded UConn takes on third-seeded Iowa State at approximately 7:27 p.m.
