(WMC-TV) - The FBI is helping investigators in Clarksdale determine if an arson is a hate crime.

John King is disabled and has been living in the home for five years. He came home over the weekend to find the inside charred with his possessions ransacked and burned.

Apparent gang graffiti and a racial slur is spray painted on what's left of King's bedroom wall. Along with the message, there are two six-point stars.

"Was I targeted, truly for my color?" asked John King."There was two officers with us also and they're the ones that really indicated it was gang signs."

Clarksdale police could not comment on the signs inside. They do believe the fire was set on purpose.

"Some evidence that we found inside the residence has suggested that this could possibly be a hate crime," said assistant chief Robbie Linley.

King has no idea why someone would target him. At one point he felt safe in the area, and now he can not even get around. His mobility chair was torched in the flame, along with countless family memories that he can never replace.

"Do they really hate, hate me that much to do this to me?" he said.

Clarksdale police said they need help from the community and asks anyone with information to come forward.
