Suspected killer back in Toledo after Arkansas arrest

A Toledo man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend in October of last year is back in Toledo Thursday.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - After months on the run, Marquis Walker is finally behind bars at the Lucas County Jail.

Police say Walker killed his ex-girlfriend, 23-year-old Jordan Jones at the Tamaron Apartments on Alexis Road near Jackman Road on October 13, 2013.

Walker was on the run for months before the US Marshals and a local SWAT team caught up with him in Jonesboro, Arkansas on March 17. Walker was arrested after a brief standoff and extradited back to Ohio. Toledo Police drove to Jonesboro Tuesday to pick Walker up.

When officers arrived back in Toledo with Walker, power was out at the Lucas County Jail. Walker was booked into the jail for the night. Power was still out Wednesday morning, meaning jail staff could not transport inmates to Toledo Municipal Court. Instead, a judge and court workers came to the jail to set bond for Walker at $1 million.

"If you have the ability to arraign someone then you should do it the following day, and as they say who knows when the power would have come back on so we wanted to get it done when we could," said Toledo Municipal Court Judge William Connelly.

Walker will be formally arraigned at 9 a.m. Friday.

Family members say while they are happy Walker is behind bars, it does not change what happened.

"I wouldn't wish this on anyone. To bury your child, the baby, it's been hard. Every day is like a whole different struggle," said Leslie Jones, Jordan's mother.

"[I am] glad that he's caught. Nothing is going to bring her back, so just hope that justice will be served," said April Boles, Jordan's godmother.

The family says they hope the story of Jordan's tragic death with help others.

"I just want women to know that you can leave. You can leave. You don't have to stay in a relationship with a man putting his hands on you," said Boles.
