TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Many areas of Toledo could be classified asfood deserts.

"There is food deserts in Toledo, and whatthat is is gaps in neighborhoods were there aren't grocery stores, farmersmarkets, really access to the health foods that people should eat," said YMCAof Greater Toledo President and CEO Brad Toft.

A new partnership between the YMCA, TheUnited Way and the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department is working to solvethat problem.

By the end of this summer, 23 kiosks offeringfresh, fairly priced and locally grown produce will be set up in Stop and Gostores around the city. Shopper say they hope the new, healthy option will helppeople kick their bad habits.

"Hopefully people can break from theiraddictions to cigarettes and alcohol and turn to healthier foods," said ChuckChilders.
