Greenpeace takes P&G palm oil protests worldwide

CINCINNATI (AP) - Greenpeace activists who staged a daring demonstration at Procter & Gamble Co. headquarters in Cincinnati have taken their message worldwide with protests in five more countries.

The environmental group says Wednesday's protests drew attention to the company's use of palm oil from a supplier tied to tropical forest destruction.

The protests included 20 activists displaying a giant banner from the top floor of P&G's Indonesian headquarters in Jakarta and dressing like tigers. Other protests were in the Philippines, India, Belgium and the United Kingdom.

Company spokeswoman Lisa Popyk (POP'-ik) has declined to comment.

Greenpeace stunned P&G on March 4 by using zip lines to unfurl banners from the company's two towers in downtown Cincinnati.

Nine protesters have pleaded not guilty to felony burglary and vandalism charges stemming from the protest.
