Public sounds off on Davis Besse environmental study

OAK HARBOR, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The results of a Davis Besseenvironmental study were released Tuesday.

Preliminary results showenvironmental impacts are not great enough to deny license renewal to theplant.

A special public meeting was held Tuesday, where people got the got thechance to sound off on environmental findings. Not everyone in attendance washappy with the study.

One man expressed his frustration aboutmigratory birds and thought a more thorough study was necessary.

On the other hand, the superintendent ofBenton-Carroll-Salem schools said 20 percent of money from the district isgenerated by Davis Besse. Organizers say comments both positive and negativehelp reach a final decision.

"We believe people in thecommunity here know the area. They're aware of the issues. We have experts butwe want to be conscious of what people's concerns are," said Nuclear RegulatoryCommission spokesperson Viktoria Mitlyng.

The environmental review is not complete. A final decision onwhether or not to renew the plant's license will be reached in September.
