(WMC-TV) - A man stole a car out of a driveway. Homeowners caught the act on camera, and they hope they can help police track down the thief.

"Now I'm out of a vehicle because somebody wants to come up and take something from you that doesn't belong to them," said Angeleta Potts, whose BMW was stolen.

Potts felt helpless as she watched an unidentified man drive off in her 745 LI Gray BMW at 4:27 a.m. Sunday. Police have no leads, but it was caught on surveillance cameras around Pott's home.

In the video, the suspect, a man, walks boldly from around the side of the Pott's home. The first car is locked.

"And he walked around that car, and it went to the other car and then pulled the door and the door was open," said Potts.

The suspect slipped inside the car where Potts' husband had not only left the door unlocked but also his wallet. He fell asleep before putting the car in the garage. When he walked outside for work he had an unwelcome surprise.

"He came back in, woke me up, said, 'The car is gone. somebody stole the cars' And I was like, what car?" said Potts.

Memphis police were called to the home where Potts says fingerprints were lifted off the unlocked car.

"I started crying. I was bawling. I actually hurt my hand, because the door ... I hit the door," said Potts.

Potts knows her family made it easy for the thief.

"Don't take it for granted lock your doors ... Don't leave stuff out for people to steal," said Potts.

As for the thief Potts said her family would have helped him.

"Why would you steal somebody else's car? You could've rung the doorbell we could've called you a cab," she said.

Pott's tag number is 093-STL.Call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH with information.
