Wood County districts solve snow day issue in different ways

(Toledo News Now) -

Two Wood County school districts are putting very different plans into action to solve the problem of excess snow days.

In Bowling Green, students will spend an extra 30 minutes in school. That time will be added to the end of the school day starting April 7. The added time will allow the district to end the school year on June 5.

"I think that's a good idea. Rather than taking away spring break or going into the summer time," said Bowling Green grandparent Melissa Mettler.

Lake Local Schools is taking a different approach. The district has canceled much of spring break in order to finish the school year on June 2. Students will have Good Friday and the Monday after Easter off of school, but will attend class as regular the rest of the week after Easter.

"The kids' education is more important. It's more important than them having a spring break," said Lake parent Jennifer Thomas. "I know a lot of parents take their kids out anyhow. So unfortunately they have to do what they have to do."
