Sylvania Schools kicks off levy campaign

SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Sylvania City Schools kicked off its push for a levy renewal with a pep rally-like event on Tuesday. Hundreds of students, parents and teachers gather in a gymnasium to start the campaign off with a buzz.

Sylvania is asking residents to approve a 3.8 mill operating levy on the May ballot. That would cost about $11 a month per $100,000 of home value.

"We're celebrating the amazing things that happen in Sylvania. We're a great community; a community that takes pride in our schools and a lot of people move to Sylvania for the school district," said Director of curriculum and Instruction Adam Finske.

The district handed out hundreds of t-shirts and yard signs stamped with the words "Education for Success" at the rally.

"That is truly what we're about in Sylvania: educating our students to be successful, to make a difference in the world. We want them to be ready for the 21st century, with the skills they need to be successful in a college or a career. We also want them to be safe and secure, making sure our buildings are safe and secure as we move forward," said Finske.

Election Day is May 6, 2014.
