GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE) -

A Gibson Co. man arrested is on several charges after a weekend standoff.

The Gibson Co. Sheriff's Office says just after 10 Saturday night dispatch got a call about a domestic disturbance at 3259 East State Road 56 in Hazleton, Indiana.

The caller reported that a man was holding his wife and their 3-year-old son against their will and that the man had repeatedly fired a gun in the direction of his wife.

When deputies arrived at the scene they say the wife had escaped the home, but the man, identified as 30-year-old Daniel Scott Richardson, of Hazleton, was still inside with his son.

Deputies also found out at that time that Richardson's father was also inside the home.

The Sheriff's Office says deputies were able to get Richardson to release his father and son, but he still wouldn't come out.

After about 40 minutes an Indiana State Police Negotiator arrived at the scene and was able to talk him out.

Richardson was arrested and taken to the Gibson County Jail where he is being held without bond.

Richardson is charged with:

  • Criminal Recklessness
  • Domestic Battery in the presence of a child
  • Criminal Confinement
  • Interference with the Reporting of a crime
  • Intimidation with a deadly weapon
  • Strangulation
