Findlay unveils plan to revamp downtown area

FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The City of Findlay unveiled a plan to renovate and revitalize its downtown on Thursday. The goal of the project is to draw more shoppers and visitors to the area.

The city plans to take away one lane of Main Street to add a median and reverse angular parking along the roadway. The changes will add between 50 and 80 parking spaces, which business owners say are desperately needed.

"Parking is really at a premium on Main Street, so we certainly need more parking spaces," said DorAnne's Gifts and Gourmet owner Doris Schumaker.

The project is also intended to slow traffic and make the area more pedestrian friendly.

"The revitalization of downtown, of Main Street is absolutely critical to all of us surviving and prospering. And going forward, we all want new things down here, new businesses and a new perspective," said Schumaker.

A second public meeting on the plan will be held on March 24 at the Findlay Inn and Conference Center from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
