Sandusky Co. Humane Society searching for new location

SANDUSKY COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Humane Society of Sandusky County is looking for a new home.  They're just having a hard time finding one.

A new shelter is badly needed, as the current building in Fremont is too small and lacks healthy conditions for the animals.  Because of this, shelter leaders say they want to build a new building on more land.

Shelter leaders say they want but to stay in Fremont due to its centralized location in Sandusky County, but the problem they're facing is in finding properly zoned land.

As it stands, the shelter has over 150 cats and more than 20 dogs, and some conditions at the shelter can cause health problems for the animals.

"It's not the best environment for them to be in," said shelter manager Kelly Askins.  "We've been looking for ways to correct that.  We've made corrections over the years, but a new building solves all of those issues."

The shelter runs on donations, and two private donors have stepped in to help pay.  One donor will be paying for the cost of land, while the other pays for the construction of a new building.

    Toledo Police are investigating a downtown Toledo bank robbery. Police said a man robbed the Huntington bank earlier on Friday afternoon. Witnesses then said the man started walking down the street and was handing out money to people saying it was God's work.
