Myles Eckert awarded for kind act to soldier

A Toledo area child who received national attention for a good deed was rewarded for his kind act on Saturday.

SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) - A Toledo area child who received national attention for a good deed was rewarded for his kind act on Saturday.

Myles Eckert, 8, was featured on CBS News On the Road with Steve Hartman, after giving away $20 he found outside a Toledo area Cracker Barrel to a soldier and his family.

Myles' father, Army Sgt. Andy Eckert, was killed in Iraq, just five weeks after Myles was born.

Myles was honored with the "Spirit of Sylvania" award on Saturday at Sylvania Northview High School. His mother, Tiffany Eckert, says all of the extra attention about his good deed has helped to bring Myles out of his shell.

"I'm super proud, because my little Myles, who is shy and often times was bullied quite a bit at school, is now a worldwide example of positivity, kindness, and perseverance," said Eckert. "It makes me really proud."

Myles was handed a certificate and a military dog tag at the ceremony.
