Renovations underway at local theater

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Major progress has been made on the only neighborhood theater still standing in the Glass City. The Ohio Theatre and Events Center has been under renovation for awhile.

The first phase of renovations have been interior improvements including installation of a heating and air conditioning system, new stage, new support system for sound a light equipment and new restroom facilities. Phase two will focus on exterior renovations, including putting up a new marquee.

Currently, theater officials say they are waiting on the proper funding to complete the project. They say keeping the integrity of the building intact and stick to its roots is a step in the right direction for the city.

"We're providing yet another place for the expansion of art education," said Jan Czernik, theater manager. "Just another place for the arts, and that's what we're trying to do."

Czernik says he's hoping to have funding soon so the renovations can be finished this year. He says donations are always welcome and the community can help out by attending a show on the weekend.
