New west side CVS has some neighbors packing bags

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

A new CVS store is planned for Evansville's west side has some neighbors packing their bags.

14 News is told part of the plan for the new CVS at the corner of St. Joe and West Delaware is to tear down at least 10 homes behind Rally's.

Officials say that will make room for the new 13,000 square foot store set to open in late fall. We're told Rally's will also be demolished, but the restaurant hasn't said if they will relocate.

A CVS spokesperson tells 14 News the company signed a lease for the property in January and construction will begin in May.

That's about the time many of the people who live on that half of the block will have to move out.

"Other than having to move, it's not bothering me other than that. I can't figure out why they would put a CVS here," says Rosena Williams.

Some of the homes are privately owned and others are rentals.

"You know, I've lived here for 18 years and I can't see myself anywhere else. It's nerve-wracking," Logan Euler says.

CVS says once the new store is built, the CVS store in Wesselman's on Sonntag will close and relocate here to St. Joseph Avenue.
