BBB Alert: Netflix hacker scam could cost you hundreds

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Better Business Bureau is seeing a big increase in fake phone calls from "Tech Support" bandits who claim that they are monitoring your computer and they can fix its problems. The latest version is a "Netflix" message that prevents you from logging into Netflix because "hackers are inside your computer." The "Tech Support" people want over $400 to "fix" your machine. It's all a big scam.

Beware of "warning" messages in a spam email or phone call from "Microsoft".

When you call, the scammers claim to be "Netflix Support" or "Microsoft Tech Support."  They say they need you to follow their guidance to let them "fix" your computer. Once inside, they can load viruses or steal bank account information.

Microsoft never monitors your computer. Netflix warnings are probably a scam.

Don't let strangers inside your computer. Verify their identity first.
