Main Street back open in Sylvania after gas leak

Columbia Gas officials say Main Street in Sylvania is back open and the area is safe after a natural gas leak caused some homes to be evacuated Monday.

SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) - Columbia Gas officials say Main Street in Sylvania is back open and the area is safe after a natural gas leak caused some homes to be evacuated Monday.

Sylvania Police closed Main Street from Convent Boulevard to Monroe Street because of the leak, but it was reopened by 6:30 p.m.

Columbia Gas says a contractor hit a 6" medium pressure line, causing the leak.  Five homes were evacuated, along with St. Joseph Sylvania Church and School.

There is currently one customer without gas service. Columbia employees will work to restore service at the request of that customer.
