Highway Patrol car struck on I-475

A highway patrolman was taken to the hospital, after a teen driver hit her patrol car late Saturday night.

SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) - A highway patrolman was taken to the hospital, after a teen driver hit her patrol car late Saturday night.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, it happened on I-475 southbound, near mile post 11, in Sylvania Township.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday, Trooper Jacquelyn Layson, 42, was parked on the left shoulder of the road, emergency lights on, assisting a vehicle that had lost control and ended up in the median.

Troopers say a 17-year-old driver traveling southbound in the left lane lost control of her vehicle, striking the back of the patrol car.

Trooper Layson was transported to St. Lukes Hospital with minor injuries.

Neither the teen driver, nor her two teenage passengers, were injured in the wreck.

Troopers say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
