Showers, thunderstorms and maybe even freezing rain today

Showers, thunderstorms and maybe some freezing rain will move across East Texas during the day today.

Showers are already falling across East Texas and this will continue throughout the day. Click here to track the rain. As instability grows in the atmosphere, some of that rain will later be accompanied by thunder and lightning. The severe weather threat does encompass pretty much all of East Texas with the biggest threats being hail and high winds. These storms will move to the east-southeast today.

Along with the threat for storms today, there is also the chance for some freezing rain. These chances are highest north of interstate 20, but could extend further south behind the front. Because of this threat, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Hunt, Delta and Hopkins counties until 9pm this evening, and a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the northern half of East Texas through this evening. The best chance for ice to accumulate will be near interstate 30.

With the threat for severe and winter weather, now is the perfect time to download our weather app and sign up for thundercall.
