Meals on Wheels delivers meals ahead of weekend storm

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The coming storm this weekend has sped up the Meals on Wheels operation. Meals were delivered early in case volunteers are unable to get out on Monday.

"They will have their food so that if we do get this big snow storm on Sunday, Monday we won't send our volunteers out and be in jeopardy," explained Carolyn Fox of Meals on Wheels.

Meals on Wheels has had to send meals out early three other times this year. Volunteer Evelyn Petersen says getting clients their meals before the storm hits is essential.

"They store up some of them, so we know it's important for us to bring that meal," she said.

Officials say the most important thing is to make sure their clients get their meals, but delivering early also helps to keep their volunteers safe.

"If you can anticipate the weather being bad," Fox said. "It's a little more work, but it's worth it not to have people out."

Customers say they really appreciate Meals on Wheels bringing their food early so they can have it when they need it.
