Driver let middle school students smoke pot on bus, police say

ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

Officers with the Landis Police Department have arrested a school bus driver for allowing middle school students to smoke marijuana on the bus.

Police said that they received a call from Matt Krome, an assistant principal at Corriher-Lipe Middle School, in reference to a report of students smoking the drug on a school bus on February 20.

Krome told police that the driver of bus 162, 30-year-old Brian David Overcash, informed him after completing his route that several students on the bus had been smoking marijuana. Krome said that all drivers are directed to immediately stop the bus and call 911 if a crime occurs.

Overcash told investigators that although he personally saw the students smoking on the bus, that he thought there was "no point" in stopping the bus or calling 911 since the "students would deny it."

He also told officers that the students had smoked marijuana on his bus "two or three times" previously. Police said they identified four students in the case.

Overcash was arrested Friday and charged with four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
