(Toledo News Now) -

New details have emerged on the fatal Ohio Turnpike crash that happened Thanksgiving night, claiming the lives of an elderly Toledo couple.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Andrew Gans was not under the influence at the time of the crash, even though he told officers he was. Three separate blood tests came back confirming that the 24-year-old did not have any alcohol or drugs in his system at the time of the accident.

OSHP says Gans was driving around 150 mph when he slammed into a van. The impact killed the elderly couple inside, Wilbur and Margaret McCoy.

Gans has been charged with vehicular homicide, but in December, he pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

He is currently being evaluated.
