TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - More than 100 companies attended the Spring 2014 Engineering Career Expo at the University of Toledo Wednesday.
"Many companies from across the United States participate in this event," said Dr. Vickie Kuntz, director of the Engineering Career Development Center that hosts the event. "A few of the nationally recognized companies scheduled to participate include Chrysler, Cooper Tire, CSX, DTE Energy, First Energy, General Electric, Honda of America, Johnson & Johnson, JP Morgan, Marathon and Whirlpool."
Kuntz said in past career expos, more than 600 engineering students have attended to meet with employers for networking and future employment.
"I'm very grateful that we have this opportunity. We get to talk to all the companies that we're interested in and more, and if they like us, they can interview us for a job as soon as tomorrow," said sophomore Terrance McKenna.
Only UT College of Engineering students, grads and alumni were eligible to attend.
"UT engineering graduates who have been in the workforce for a few years and are interested in exploring other positions also are welcome," said Kuntz.
Sharing their resumes and displaying their keen verbal skills, hundreds of students got the chance to speak with company reps about summer co-ops and future job opportunities.
"It's really cool to be able to have all of these companies here and to be able to talk to them one on one, you know? They can learn from us and we can learn from them," said sophomore Joshua Hoffman.
Students participating said the career expo is an opportunity that assists in furthering their careers.
"This puts your face on these people's minds and you can see how many companies want to hire engineers," said junior Travis Brinston.
Many students say this job fair helps get them ahead of the game, but it doesn't take away from difficulties of landing a job after graduation. Still, they remain hopeful.
