City moves forward with former Clarion Hotel property

The City of Toledo is taking over a former hotel property in an effort to attract new development along Reynolds Road in south Toledo.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The City of Toledo is taking over a former hotel property in an effort to attract new development along Reynolds Road in south Toledo.

The city is targeting the former Clarion Hotel property to tear down the former hotel building and pave the way for the property next door to be redeveloped.

City council is approving a measure for the Lucas County Land Bank to take over the site, which is on the forfeited property list, and transfer it to the city, which will be seeking state and federal funding to tear down the former hotel. This will allow a furniture retail business to set up at the former Kmart property next door.

Councilman Rob Ludeman says this is a much-needed step toward the future redevelopment of the Reynolds Road corridor.

The county treasurer says the transaction for the Land Bank to acquire the site and transfer it to the city can take as little as one business day to complete.
