Fallen firefighter’s classmate selling shirts for his family

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - It's been just under one month since Toledo firefighters James Dickman and Stephen Machcinski died in the line of duty, and people in the community are still coming together to remember the fallen heroes and help their families.

"He was an outstanding person," said Michael Eck of Dickman. "[He was] outgoing, he was there to help you, push you through the academy, get the things done that needed to be done."

Eck and Dickman were both in firefighter training together. Now Eck wants to help Dickman's family. He's selling T-shirts with the class motto on them, which Dickman created. All proceeds from the shirts will go toward the Dickman family.

"It means a lot that he came up with the motto for our class, and just so that the family can have something to remember him by and not only his family but our family, especially the class," Eck said.

There are other ways people can help. The Feed Our Toledo Firefighters Facebook page is organizing for people to feed fire stations throughout the Toledo area this Wednesday. They want to feed fire stations on the 26th of each month in honor of the fallen heroes. Click here for more on the fallen firefighters, including ways you can help their families.
