Bridge construction slows traffic on Findlay highway

Interstate 75 is one of the busiest routes in Findlay, but drivers' commutes could be affected now that one section of the highway is under construction.

FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) - Interstate 75 is one of the busiest routes in Findlay, but drivers' commutes could be affected now that one section of the highway is under construction.

Replacement work is underway on the US-224 bridge running over I-75 and its interchange, and ODOT officials say this will have a major impact on traffic. Traffic lanes are expected to drop from five to three – one lane in each direction and a left-turn lane to get onto I-75.

The new bridge will have six lanes, including a left-turn lane in each direction, new traffic signals and a sidewalk. While it's being built, local businesses say the construction is going to hurt them.

"We get a lot of our business from Canadians going south or even just people traveling through Michigan who have fallen in love with [Tim Horton's]," said Tim Horton's manager Gabrielle LaFountain. "I think about 50 percent of our business is people traveling who see the sign and get off the highway just to come here."

A detour route will run along OH-12 and OH-235 during the project. Work is expected to last through 2014.
