Sylvania students simulate distracted driving

SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Sylvania Schools made sure teens there are aware of the risks of distracted driving on Wednesday.

Students got behind the wheel of a driving simulator, which demonstrates distracted driving. Students had to send texts and make phone calls while dodging pedestrians and other distractions.

The simulator not only shows the dangers of distracted driving, it also took students through the consequences – a valuable lesson.

"Whenever you have a distraction while driving, it just shows that the dangers can increase, even when you don't think that they can," said Davidson Baker, a Northview student.

"I pictured it to the way that I usually drive," said Brianna Quinones, another student. "[Compared] to that, it was just, like, different. Like there is so many distractions and stuff like that. I thought it was kind of cool, though."

This is the first year the school has brought in the simulator, and school officials say they hope to bring it in again next year.
