Part of I-75 closed due to potholes

(Toledo News Now) -

The pothole problem is affecting a major stretch of highway in Toledo.

ODOT has closed down the right two northbound lanes of I-75 from Collingwood to the I-475 interchange until further notice for pavement repairs. ODOT's Theresa Pollick says traditional cold weather pothole repair methods are not effective.

"With the cold temperatures and the fact we cannot get the cold mix to stick to or adhere to any part of the roadway, the decision was made to close it down for the safety of everybody involved," she said.

The measure was necessary because that stretch of I-75 has many curves and bends and drivers trying to avoid a pothole can often lead to an accident.

ODOT is currently reviewing what work will be done for the needed pavement repairs.

"Right now we're evaluating what we can do to make a more permanent fix than just using the cold mix, so we're exploring all options," Pollick said.

ODOT has also closed down the ramp from Detroit Avenue to northbound 75 until further notice. A suggested alternate route is using Monroe Street or Collingwood Boulevard.
