Lucas Co. treasurer releases 2013 report, says things are improving

LUCAS COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Lucas County Treasurer Wade Kapszukiewicz says based on a variety of economic indicators in the county, 2013 saw the local economy improving slightly and he anticipates slight growth again in 2014.

Kapszukiewicz released his ‘Wade Wire' report for the fourth quarter 2013. It shows 2013 finished with a lower unemployment rate compared to 2012, sales tax collections in the county were up, the construction sector showed signs of growth, but the area is slow to regain jobs and wages lost in the recession. He's hoping this can be a sign to local leaders of work needed to be done to help people who are still struggling, but at the same time showing progress being made.

"Unemployment is coming down," he said. "Construction is rebounding. Sales tax is stronger. More people are buying automobiles. We are absolutely moving in the right direction but we're doing it slowly and at a slower pace than the state and the nation as a whole."
