MONROE, MI (Toledo News Now) -

The Ohio Attorney General is suing a Monroe, Michigan car dealership for circulating what he calls "deceptive advertisements."

Attorney General Mike DeWine's office announced the lawsuit Friday, saying the Monroe Dodge Chrysler Jeep Superstore violated Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act by advertising prices for which not all consumers qualified, failing to disclose all required terms, and failing to clearly disclose important exclusions or conditions of a sale.

DeWine says the dealership is still subject to Ohio laws, even though it is located in Michigan.

"Businesses that advertise to Ohio consumers must follow Ohio's rules," said DeWine. "Otherwise, it's not fair to consumers or to businesses that do follow the rules. The office has worked with this dealership on many occasions to address advertising violations, but the problems continue to resurface."

The lawsuit seeks an injunction to stop further violations, reimbursement for any affected consumers, and civil penalties, DeWine's office said. DeWine's office says it has entered into agreements with the dealership to stop the deceptive advertisements in the past, but that the ads continued.

The Ohio Attorney General's Office provides a publication titled "Guidelines for Motor Vehicle Advertising," to help car dealerships avoid lawsuits like this. Download it here.
