MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) - Most districts have exceeded calamity days, which means students have been unable to fully prepare for the Ohio Achievement Assessments and Ohio Graduation Test.
The brutal winter weather has wreaked havoc on academic contact time with students. Educators are adjusting lessons to ensure that student learning continues in a meaningful fashion, covering content and skills associated with the upcoming state tests.
Maumee School District officials say the extra calamity days used will be made up at the end of the year in June.
With tests coming up, leaders say preparing students is now its main focus.
"We lost seven instructional days in the month of January, and that was huge. And I think, like everyone else, this is a very unusual circumstance, and we're all trying to pitch in and get the instruction to the students as they need," said Dr. Gregory Smith, Maumee superintendent.
In the Sylvania School District, the Feb. 18 professional development day scheduled for staff members will be turned into a full day of instruction for students.
