WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Tuesdaynight will be busy for road crews in the area, but crews in Wood County arealready running into a major problem: They barely have enough salt to getthrough the storm.

Fourhundred tons of salt seems like a lot, but in reality, Wood County HighwayDepartment Superintendent Gary Britten says that salt will be used up fast. Itcould be gone before this round of snow is over.

Anextra 600 tons of salt was ordered Tuesday, but the problem is getting itdelivered.

"Everyother year, you place the order today and by tomorrow, they'd be bringing it tome," Britten said. "The last three or four weeks, it's been about a week[before it gets here]."

Hesays that's because most places are running low on their salt supply.

"It'sa problem if you can't have it when you need it," he said. "Most everyone hasused what's in their contract."

All29 road crew employees in Wood County are getting ready to hit the groundrunning for at least another 48 hours of 12-hour shifts.

"Everybodyis getting tired," Britten said. "We run 12-hour shifts, but that means 13-14hours, basically, for all of us and we're not sleeping a lot."

Ifthe salt does run out, Wood County has a plan B: Crews will spread ‘number twostone' on the roads instead. The small stones will help give drivers tractionon the roads.
