Furniture business to expand with new headquarters in Lucas County

A popular furniture manufacturer in Maumee is moving its business to Monclova Township. The major expansion will include a new headquarters building and manufacturing facilities.
Allermuir has been in Maumee since 2007, but needs to expand after years of steady growth.

LUCAS COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) - Allermuir U.S., one of the country's fastest growing producers of furniture for the contract, office, hospitality, school, university and leisure markets, has purchased a 37-acre site in Maumee. The major expansion will include a new headquarters building and manufacturing facilities.

According to Mark Brettschneider, president of Allermuir, the company launched its American operation in Maumee back in 2007. After six years of steady growth, it needs to expand to meet the growing demand throughout the nation.

"We made the decision to launch our U.S. operation in Maumee because of its proximity to all major domestic supply and transportation resources, its regional reputation of having a large, highly-skilled labor pool, as well as its exceptionally business-friendly environment," Brettschneider explained. "Since we have been producing and servicing our products here, our U.S. customers have benefited from more integrated solutions, faster turnaround, and improved service and support. It's been a win-win for all concerned."

After looking at several sites in Michigan and Ohio, Allermuir executives chose a prime parcel at the southeast corner of Jerome Road and Technology Drive in Monclova Township. Plans include the construction of a 100,000 square foot facility, with an additional 150,000 square feet planned over three years.

The project is contingent on due diligence of the property and final approval of state and local incentives, which were negotiated by the Regional Growth Partnership and JobsOhio. In addition, the RGP/JobsOhio also assisted Rudolph/Libbe in the site selection process.

With the support of the newly sworn in Mayor D. Michael Collins and his development team, Toledo City Council approved the sale of the city-owned property Jan. 2.

"I am grateful to Allermuir for their recognition of our community's workforce and the logistical benefits that this site offers. This is another example of the value that can be realized through the cooperation of all of our economical development partners," said Collins.

The company currently employs around 50 employees, and Maumee city administrator, John Jezak, expects that number to double or even triple. It might seem like Maumee will take a loss, but the new structure will be in a joint economic development zone.

"I think it's good news for the city of Maumee, Monclova Township and Toledo. But it's the best news for people who are currently unemployed because there will be a lot of good paying jobs because of this," said Jezak.

Allermuir appointed Walbridge's Rudolph/Libbe as construction contractor for the project and Detroit architectural firm, Rossetti, to develop its design. A start date for construction will be released once project details are finalized.
