Inches pile up in New Kent County

Much of central Virginia is covered in a blanket of snow, especially in New Kent County, which saw some of the heaviest snowfall in the Richmond-metro area. Areas in New Kent got up to five inches of snow, that have people clearing their paths Wednesday.

Fluffy snow isn't such a hassle for New Kent native James Bey.

"Very powdery… Very easy on your back. Not hard to shovel," said Bey.

Bey also covered his car with a sheet, to make dumping off the snow, much easier. "When the snow is done, just take (the sheet) and flip it back... No cleaning windshields," continued Bey.

Side roads in New Kent Wednesday morning were still blanketed, as schools and county offices were closed.

Enter the snow plows. Eric Baker teamed up with his dad to clear store parking lots.

"When my dad's driving the truck, I usually watch out for him for all the other vehicles, coming in and out of the parking lots," described Baker.

Temperatures are so cold, the sun could only do so much as far as melting the snow left on the road. Whatever snow does melt during the day, will surely freeze overnight.
