V-DEM prepares for second winter storm

The Department of Emergency Management is keeping an eye on conditions Tuesday.

"Weather in Virginia can be unpredictable," said David Watson with V-DEM. "We are susceptible to any kind of disaster here."

On Tuesday, they had their eyes to the sky and on radar in anticipation for another winter storm.

"The storm will primarily be to the south and east of Richmond, so we are looking at the Tidewater region to have the most accumulation."

V-DEM is responsible for helping coordinate the state's response to whatever this winter storm might bring - everything from clearing the roads to disaster relief.

While V-DEM will be monitoring the storm, they want you to stay ahead of the storm by taking advantage of all the options available to you - like the Ready Virginia app.

"People can download to make an emergency plan, and we suggest putting together an emergency kit for items that people can use any time," said Watson. "There may be a power outage or they may be stuck at home or even stuck in their car, so it's a great idea, especially with these winter weather events, for people to have an emergency kit in their vehicle in case something hits."
