Chesterfield paramedic, 19, dies from heart complications

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

The Chesterfield community is mourning the sudden loss of 19-year-old Jordan Kuzik, a Chesterfield paramedic and son of a Chesterfield County Police sergeant.

Jordan died unexpectedly Thursday from heart complications. He was a graduate from Chesterfield Fire and EMS Volunteer Recruit School #27. Seven months after graduating he received an EMS Lifesaver Award for treating a patient who was in cardiac arrest. He was set to marry his high school sweetheart, Monica, in March.

Several fundraiser's have been planned to help with Jordan's burial and other expenses.

Anyone who stops by Don Pepe's on Tuesday will have a portion of their bill go toward helping cover Jordan's funeral costs.

There will be another fundraiser at the Texas Roadhouse near Chesterfield Town Center on February 4. Ten percent of all proceeds on that day will also be used to support Jordan's burial expenses.

Furthermore, an online Pampered Chef fundraiser has been established here. All the proceeds in this fundraiser will be given to the family to help with expenses.

Sergeant James Kuzik said his son had a passion for loving and helping people. So much so that he sometimes would not help himself.

"He cared for everybody, he always wanted people to feel good. He loved helping people," Kuzik said.

Jordan was recovering from the flu just before he died.

"He caught the flu this time around I'm not 100 percent sure what type of flu it was but he complained about being ill his last night he stayed up playing video games it was his night off with his friends something he loved to do to pass time and de stress and he complained that his chest was hurting," said Kuzik.

Jordan planned on seeing a doctor Friday morning, but died before that appointment. Doctors with the Virginia Department of Health say during this period of wide spread flu activity it's important that you get a vaccination, stay at home if you are sick and if you find yourself in extreme pain or discomfort call your doctor.

Still his friends and family say his memory will live on forever through the lives of the many people that he touched.

"Jordan was a good young man and I was looking forward to having him be part of the Chesterfield County fire organization. It's just a shame he wasn't able to continue that opportunity," Captain Randy Perdue with Chesterfield Fire & EMS said.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Bliley's Funeral Home at 6900 Hull Street on Wednesday, January 29, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 30, at 12pm, held at Victory Tabernacle Church of God, at 11700 Genito Road. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial at 10201 Newbys Bridge Road.
