LSU comes to South Carolina with both teams needing a win

(RNN) - LSU and South Carolina will both be in search of their first SEC win when the Tigers visit the Gamecocks on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. ET. The game will air on SEC TV.

The Gamecocks (7-7; 0-1) gave up a 12-1 run to start their Thursday league opener at No. 10 Florida. They clawed their way back to trail by eight early in the second half before the Gators pulled away to an easy 74-58 win.

Tyrone Johnson leads the Gamecocks scoring with 11.7 points per game. Close behind are Brenton Williams at 11.1 ppg and Sindari Thornwell, 10.7.

The trio scored near their averages and combined for 32 in the Florida loss, with Johnson scoring 12 and Williams and Thornwell adding 10 each.

Tennessee worked LSU over in a game that was expected to be close. It wasn't. UT won going away, 68-50.

LSU coach Johnny Jones expressed disappointment at his team's performance.

"I don't think we competed at the level that we needed to to have an opportunity or a chance with a team the caliber of Tennessee," he said.

He added that his team got "out-toughed," and "lacked passion."

Jordan Mickey continued his efficient scoring for LSU (9-4; 0-1) with 14 points, and he blocked five shots on the other end of the floor.

Johnny O'Bryant had 11 points for the Tigers.
