Mason man sentenced following 2012 attack

WARREN COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

A Mason man has been sentenced to four years in prison following the July 15 attack on a Mason woman.

William O'Leary, 43, was sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty in November for felonious assault and gross sexual imposition.

The victim was discovered by family members after she had been at O'Leary's house the evening before. Authorities say she was severely beaten, suffering head trauma, nose and facial fractures, and other injuries consistent with sexual assault.

Evidence collected indicated that she had been attacked at the O'Leary residence. Police say blood and clothing evidence were located throughout the home.

The victim was hospitalized for several days and initially had no memory of the attack.

Assistant Prosecutor Teresa Hiett argued for a more severe sentence due to the nature of the injuries. Judge Donald Oda imposed the lesser sentence, despite the prosecution's arguments, citing the defendant's lack of prior record.
