Vigil held just days after Barberton triple murder

BARBERTON, OH (WOIO) -

A major break in the Barberton triple murder case came Friday with the arrest of two suspects.

And later that evening, there was a huge turnout for a vigil with friends and family.

"I'm just glad that they caught somebody," said Dan Stephens, Ashley's father.

Ashley Carpenter's dad was very emotional as he attended the vigil for his daughter.

"I feel so sorry for my daughter's mom. She lost both her babies. But at least they caught somebody," added Dan Stephens.

Hundreds of residents, friends and family members gathered in five degree weather in downtown Barberton.

"We came to give our respects to the family," said Miranda Watson.

Pictures of Ashley Carpenter and David Kohler-Carpenter were everywhere and there's a growing memorial near Lake Anna Park. Both were killed, along with their father John Kohler, in a deadly home invasion.

The large crowd provided just a little comfort for mourning family members.

"I love it.  I love all these people.  It's a good turnout," stated Jason Dowdy, Cousin.

"It makes me feel great.  Ashley had a lot of friends. Many, many friends," said Dan. "And so people in this community are trying to embrace each other and heal."
