Family celebrates 4th generation of twins

OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

In a family with three generations of twins, Mandy and Allen Harkleroad knew they could have twins.

But they figured the odds weren't on their side. Because a fourth generation of twins has odds of one in 4 billion.

"With my dad being a twin and me being a twin and then my grandfather having twin brothers," Allen Harkleroad said. "What are the odds of us actually having it happen to us too?"

And they hit the twins jackpot when their sons Leif and Luke were born Wednesday at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

"There was a lot of shock," Allen Harkleroad said when he learned he and his wife would be having twins. "It was kind of mind blowing."

Allen and his brother, Alex, are twins. Their father, Dave Harkleroad, is a twin. And their grandfather had twin brothers.

"It's unbelievable you know that this could happen to our family," paternal grandmother Carol Harkleroad said.

Allen Harkleroad said he will tell his sons including his oldest son that they too could have twins.

"As soon as (Leif) was born, the first time I was holding him, I right away told him, 'Like, OK, look just so you know this is a possibility, so just a heads up," he said with a laugh.
