Popular cartoon hero will be brought to life in movie to film in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A popular Mattel hero will be brought to life in Wilmington.

Sources say the production office for Max Steel will open next month and filming is expected to start in February.

Mattel is joining forces with Dolphin Entertainment to turn the popular cartoon into a live-action movie.

The movie will be released near the end of 2014.

No word yet on who will star in the flick. However, Variety recently reported that Noah Silver, Ben Winchell, Dylan Minnette tested for the lead role and Skyler Samuels and Skyler Day are among the actresses who tested for the female lead.

According to a release about the film, Max Steel tells the story of teenager Maxwell McGrath and alien companion Steel who can combine special turbo-energy powers to generate sensational superhero Max Steel.
