Dog who ran away after horse-drawn carriage crash found safe

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A 5-year-old Australian Shepherd that ran away after the horse-drawn carriage she was riding in was involved in a hit-and-run crash in downtown Louisville has been found safe and returned to her owner.

Louisville Metro police officers found Kuri Friday morning outside the Jefferson County Youth Center at 6th and Jefferson.

According to police, Thursday's accident happened at 9:07 p.m. at the intersection of 6th and Main Streets when a red car rear-ended the carriage, causing serious damage and allowing a horse to get loose. The driver left the scene.

The horse, which was not injured, had to be chased down. It was located near 9th and Market Streets.

Kuri, the Australian Shepherd, rides along in the carriage with her owner, the driver of the carriage. Kuri ran away after the accident.

Julie Davis, owner of Louisville Horse Trams which operates the carriage involved in the crash, said Friday morning that the company would offer a $500 reward for Kuri's return.

Anyone with information about the red car, which hasn't been located, should call the LMPD anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD.
