Missing woman found inside car that rolled into ditch

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A missing woman was found inside of a car that rolled into a ditch Friday morning.

Police got a missing person's report overnight, so officers started looking and found Christina Reeves, a mother of three,  and her vehicle in a ditch off the 7800 block of River Road Pike.

Robert Ballow heard her cries for help.

"I was in the right place at the right time and I hope anybody would do the same thing," said Ballow. "It was a miracle I was where I was at that time."

Ballow said he had just stepped outside when he heard some faint words.

"I heard someone yelling for help and I started walking in that direction," said Ballow. "I could tell it was too far for me to walk, so I got in my Jeep."

Armed with first aid training and a knowledge of CPR, Ballow headed down River Road Pike, but didn't travel far.

He found Christina Reeves' overturned car and she was sitting next to it.

"She was sitting still, which you should do, I mean you don't know how you're injured," said Ballow. "I put my coat around here. I didn't want to move her."

"I asked her what she was doing with her life. I learned about her husband. I knew she was out late at work and she was tired. She said she slipped off the road."

At the time, Ballow didn't know police had been out looking for Reeves.

Reeves was at Vanderbilt for surgery Friday with a broken femur, cuts to the head and trauma to the spine.

"At first police said, 'we don't know if she's going to make it,'" said Reeves' husband, Travis Reeves. "Angels is the only thing I can think of that saved her life. If it hadn't been for that, she wouldn't be here now."

"This woman kicked her way out through the windshield with the leg she knew wasn't broken," said Travis Reeves. "She pulled herself out through that front windshield."

Travis Reeves and Ballow spoke by phone on Friday night. Channel 4 News was there for the call.

"I found your wife in the accident last night," said Ballow. "I am grateful that she's OK."

"I'm forever in debt to him," Travis Reeves explained. "He didn't just save my wife's life but my children's because my wife is my life. If I ever meet this guy, I just want to tell him thank you."

The two men talked about meeting once Christina Reeves has mended.

A fund in the Reeves family name has been set up at Regions Bank locations.
